Our Story

Mockingbird Improv was founded in 2021 as the only non profit improv theater in San Diego. We strive to be a home for artists to express themselves and build community. Improv is all about playing and having fun. Connecting to an inner child that too many of us tend to neglect. We are a place for creativity, laughter, and above all else, joy. 

Our Mission

Mockingbird Improv’s mission is to provide connection, joy, and opportunities for self-expression to the local community. We serve all parts of our community including youth and underserved individuals by engaging in high-quality training and performances and providing a supportive and empowering space for fun, silliness and growth through equitable, diverse and inclusive practices. Through our programs, performers, patrons, and students can express creativity, build confidence, and cultivate joy through laughter and play.

Our Past

In a world which was desperate for laughter, Mockingbird rose from the ashes of our previous theater, Old Town Improv Co. in the wake of the Covid 19 pandemic. With the same great commitment to our community and quality, we banded together to create a new space where we could soar to new heights. We would love for you to join us on our journey!

Like everything in Improv, the story cannot exist without the participation of its audience. You can get involved by seeing a show, taking a class, telling a friend or making a contribution. Mockingbird Improv is a now a California Nonprofit with tax exemption 501(c)3 status. All donations are tax deductible.
